My swan dive...

I thought I would share a picture of my new jewelry.
And let me tell ya...this is the most expensive jewelry I'll ever own : )
Earlier in the Spring we started remodeling the house....some paint,
new floors, new woodwork.
Everything was going great until one day I took a swan dive off the ladder and shattered my arm.
My husband was hot....he warned me not to get on a ladder when no one was home.
But come on.....I'm 40 years old and I've been on a ladder before. Who knew you could fall from 7 feet up so darn fast.
And after an emergency surgery and lots of hours of physical therapy I have a bionic elbow.....as my kids say.
I've never had surgery and the only time I was in the hospital was to have my 2 kids.
I was in shock....and it's a good thing because as they were wheeling me into the operating room the doctor told me we needed to wait a few minutes because he needed more hardware.
Now....it took me a few minutes for that to register......more hardware.....more hardware for what.
Well, as it turns out.....more hardware for my arm. I now have a metal plate and 10 screws holding my arm together.
And the funny thing is.....I couldn't wait to see this x-ray..... and when I saw it the only thing that jumped out at me were all those staples. I couldn't imagine how on earth they were going to take those things out. The only thing that came to mind was taking staples out of paper and I wasn't gonna be happy about that.
Thankfully they came out very easily and I didn't even have to shed a tear.
And silly me....I thought once they took the splint off my arm would be as good as new.
Wrong.....my arm was splinted for 2 weeks and when it finally came off I couldn't move it.
I couldn't extend it and I couldn't bend it.
I was shocked.
Physical therapy started the day the splint came off and I've been at it ever since....just 3 more weeks to go.
Thank the Lord I broke my left arm as I stitch with my right hand. And I could use my left hand to hold my linen so I've been stitching as much as possible.
I think stitching is the only thing keeping me sane through all of this.

So needless to say I'm really really behind on just about everything.
But I'm getting more strength in my arm everyday so I hope to get this train back on the tracks soon.
The house is slowly coming together so I'll post pics of some of my favorite things.

Thank you my friends for your patience and your kindness.

Until next time Happy Stitching

WOW!!! What beautiful hardware, so sorry you need it but thankful they have the knowledge to be able to do this.
I had elbow surgery a year ago. no hardware but a terrible scar that hurts...nothing comparred to what you have been through. I hope you are healing well. I will keep you in my prayers. Don't tell the hubby I said so but He was right, stay off the ladder ;)

Stacy,
I had read about that on your web page and feel so bad for you. I know how busy you always are. I'm so glad it's mending and that you are able to stitch during the process. I'm in my 50s and think nothing of climbing a ladder, guesss I better be more careful.
hugs to ya,
Pam

Oh my goodness, Stacy! I feel for you, girlfriend. I had elbow surgery to release the tendons and then major shoulder surgery two years later. And stitching was my savior too! Glad to hear that you are on the mend and you're still able to stitch. You have my prayers for a complete recovery and that you'll soon be back to your everyday life.

All the best,
Teresa

Oh, my heart goes out to you! All that hardware looks scary! I spent 9 months in a cast and know what you're going through with the physical therapy. My arm was shriveled and I couldn't move it. It would have healed a lot faster if the doctor had used hardware, but he didn't want me to have a scar. I hope that your arm heals quickly.

Wish you a speedy recovery Stacy, and glad to hear you can still stitch and design.
Have you thought about employing a decorator :-)))!! Mind you I do it all myself too, so will take your advice on the ladder now I have seen that X-ray.

Whew; best wishes for a fast recovery! I'm amazed that you could still stitch, even if it wasn't your "stitching arm".

Looking forward to seeing those goodies; thanks for sharing with us!

P.S. your "Hallows Eve" is totally on my 2010 Halloween finish list...which means it should be done sometime in 2011 if the trend holds! I still have yet to acquire the pattern, lol! :P

Oh my word!!! You could have DIED if you got marrow in your bloodstream! Girl, don't take dives like that again anytime soon! Stay off ladders for a bit. Hope you are good as new soon. Having had big damage to my left wrist and lots of painful occupational therapy, I know what you must have been going through. Your arm will never be the same again so take good care of it. No more stunt work.

I just found your designs, then I found your blog, that you had fallen off the ladder and then seeing the pins and stuff, Oh my gosh, I showed my husband this morning and he said, " I bet her husband was hot!!" "Now do you see why I don't want you on a ladder." I just started Hollyhock Farm so you have been in my thoughts I am so glad you updated your blog.
I thought it was terrible when you dropped your lap top too.
Glad you are better.

Thanks so much everybody. It was an expensive way to get out of all this remodeling mess. My husband said 'Geeez, all you had to say is I'm not gonna paint'.
When I left therapy today I could bend my arm and touch my face. Very exciting....now I can put my make-up on and blow my nose with 2 hands : )
And I can eat an ice-cream cone and drive at the same time. That didn't go so well a few weeks ago. We drove thru Dairy Queen and got our favorite chocolate dipped cones...yum. I had my good arm on the steering wheel and my bum arm holding my cone and I could only get it to within 6 inches of my mouth. Yikes....what a shocker. Of course my family thought that was all too funny. Needless to say we pulled over into a parking lot so I could finish my ice-cream : )

So sorry to hear of your new jewlery purchase. That does bit. I work as a surgical scrub nurse and specialize in orthopedics and fractures like yours. I'm glad to hear that you are better and haven't fractured your sense of humor.
A couple of years ago I slipped on the ice and lacerated a nerve in the palm of my right hand to my second finger. I was in a splint cast for a month and stitching was the only thing that saved my sanity. I had to learn to stitch left handed and hold a stitching frame with my splinted left hand. Needles to say I stitched very, very slow but I could at least stitch. By the time the cast came off I was getting pretty good.
Just wanted to let you know you are not alone and I it makes me appreciate your talents all the more for you sharing your stitching challenge.
I will be looking forward to seeing the pictures of your house and sharing the joy of your new surroundings.

Stacy...what a horrific break! I take x-rays and do surgery cases all the time and yours is one of the worst elbows I've seen...glad that you're on the mend and getting your therapy...a good excuse to never get on a ladder again!!!

Glad to see your stitching along too...it's the best therapy of all...
